Gender bias and AI

Marta Ruiz Costa-Jussà, Computer Science department (CS) a researcher from the Intelligent Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (IDEAI-UPC) research centre, analyses how gender bias in natural language processing —a sub-branch of artificial intelligence— affects, for example, some Google Translate translations, in which one gender prevails, and automated hiring processes that prioritise male candidates over female candidates. The researcher talks about the causes of this phenomenon and the challenges it poses to artificial intelligence.
